Harrismith accommodation - Mount Everest Guest Farm
A working farm experience, featuring free roaming game and spectacular views!

Mount Everest is 21 km from Harrismith, on the Verkykerskop road and 17 km form the N3, centrally situated about halfway between Johannesburg and Durban. We are a good base to explore the Northern Drakensberg, Midlands Meander and Boer War Battlefields from.

We are a well known and popular rock climbing spot, with more than 200 bolted routes of varying grades.

Mount Everest is home to many species of game and other wildlife, including the Lechwe, Blesbuck, Hartebeest, Common Reedbuck, Zebra, Ostrich, Impala, Sable, Springbuck and Fallow deer. (We do not hunt nor allow hunting on the farm at this time.) You might even spot a colony of meerkat.

Some bushman paintings are still to be seen on the farm, although they have been washed by time and elements.

Mount Everest Guest Farm has been under new management since July 2020. We started with one cabin and currently have 8 units to choose from ranging from basic to executive. We also added camping as an option. The farm has two access gates, making it very safe and secure.

All units are self-catering (there is no food available on the farm) and self cleaning (house keeping services on request only and charged at R200/day). All units have extraordinary beautiful views, have braai facilities available (wood is available @ R50/bag extra), either at the unit or in a communal braai area (duplex units) and are equipped with access to free Wi-Fi. (Please note: the following units are not equipped with a television - Lechwe, Gemsbok, Rooibok and Volstruis).

For more information contact: Maci on 060 5333 992 between 8:00 and 17:00 by phone or WhatsApp or Kobus on 083 579 4449.

IMPORTANT: We do not allow day visitors without prior arrangement! Fishing requires a permit.

  • We stopped over at Mount Everest on our way back from KZN to Jozi. Our cabin, Mount Everest, was superb, up against the mountain and secluded. It was clean, everything worked (including Amazon Movies) and the kids loved the upstairs loft. Our first night was clear and the kids and I climbed the mountain behind the cabin. We were rewarded with stunning views towards Harrismith and Platberg. My plan... Read More

  • The best mountain experience ever. The cottage was excellent, just the right amount of convenience and rusticness. The reception was warm, helpful and accommodating. This is not a resort, it is a farm. The place is vast and beautiful, will keep you occupied.
