Farewell to the Weyer’s Family
For many years Petrus, Amanda and their children have been the heart and soul of Mount Everest, with an extraordinary appreciation for nature and their surroundings they will be greatly missed not only by the guests and staff at Mount Everest but by the whole Harrismith Community.
We thank the Weyers Family in their part in the Mount Everest Journey and we wish them all the happiness and joy on their next adventure!
Mount Everest is 21 km from Harrismith, on the Verkykerskop road and 17 km form the N3, centrally situated about halfway between Johannesburg and Durban. We are a good base to explore the Northern Drakensberg, Midlands Meander and Boer War Battlefields from.
Mount Everest is home to many species of game and other wildlife, including the lechwe, blesbuck, zebra, ostrich, emu, springbuck, tak bok as well as the rare “ouvolk” or sungazer reptile. You might even spot a colony of meerkat. Some bushman paintings are still to be seen on the farm, although they have been washed by time and elements.
We are also a well know and popular rock climbing spot, with more than 200 bolted routes of varying grades.
