A Mountain Escape with Room to Explore at Mount Everest Guest Farm

 

There is a moment on the way to Mount Everest Guest Farm when the road, the mountains and the wide Free State sky seem to invite you to slow down. Just outside Harrismith, our farm is a place to spend your days outdoors and your evenings around the braai, with space to enjoy the quiet in between.

 

Follow the mountain trail

 

Start your morning with a hike around Mount Everest mountain. The loop takes approximately 2½ to 3 hours and rewards walkers with open views and time in nature. It is a fairly demanding trail, so bring water, sun protection and suitable walking shoes. There is no charge for guests to hike.

 

If you prefer a gentler pace, take a walk near your accommodation and see what you notice along the way. Wildlife roams freely on the farm, and the changing light makes even a familiar view feel different later in the day.

 

Climb Eagle Mountain

 

For rock climbers, Eagle Mountain offers a full day of adventure. Its sport routes, multi pitch climbs, traditional lines and bouldering problems cater to a range of experience levels. Bring your own gear, check the weather and allow time to enjoy the views from the rock.

Cast a line or watch the birds

 

Bring your bass fishing gear and spend a few peaceful hours beside one of the farm’s four fishing dams. Fishing is catch and release, so the pleasure is in the challenge, the setting and the story you take home.

 

You can also bring binoculars or a camera and spend time watching the birdlife and wildlife. There is no need to fill every hour: sometimes the best part of a farm stay is sitting still long enough to notice what is around you.

 

Come back to the braai

 

After a day outside, return to your self catering chalet or campsite for a relaxed evening. Prepare supper, light the braai in the designated area and watch the stars appear above the mountains.
